RIM is grabbing some market share of iPad in Canada with price cuts on their Blackberry Playbook. Did bring back memories when Palm’s Touchpad was being sold up a $100 and its share shot up to a great numbers. Whatever the cause, I always love the competition, keeps Apple on toes, market monopoly is not good for consumers.
In case you didn’t knew, Playbook is the upcoming tablet from RIM which was showcased earlier this year. Now it seems to be default trend for any tablet to get iPad comparisons done for itself. Playbook is not behind, here is a video where the browsing experience is compared on both the tablets.
Now If you have been reading the blog, you might have noticed that I am pretty open when it comes to iPad competitors, if they are good I will clearly mention the same. Now since its a video from RIM showcasing their upcoming tablet, iPad had to loose. If Apple did a video comparing both, pretty sure iPad would have won. Now since we have kept these things aside, well Playbook seems like pretty nice tablet. Flash bashing on iOS devices should be avoided since its a getting old, apart from that I hope Apple take notice of these things and work towards improving the performance(considering the things shown in video stands true).
Well I have been talking about this for long, waiting for RIM to show off their iPad competitor and finally its out as “The Playbook“. My initial reaction, well its a decent impressive tablet, atleast in the videos and pictures. Hats off to RIM to pull up something like this, their earlier efforts to compete with iOS devices aka iPhone has been mostly unsuccessful. Will Playbook trounce the iPad sales, well we have to wait and watch. By early next year we will see plenty of tablets coming to market and Playbook will have to compete with them as well along with the market leader iPad.
How does it affect iPad owners, one word “COMPETITION“, specs wise Playbook defeats iPad and this may alert Apple to come out with a more stronger(better RAM & processing power), feature rich(camera’s etc) iPad 2. The Playbook comes out in early 2011 around the same time as next gen iPad is rumored to be coming to market.
I am not sure how many of you or people world wide are waiting for a tablet from RIM to compete with iPad, but if you are than there is news for you. RIM might show off their tablet at the DevCon in San Francisco next week at their BlackBerry Developer Conference.
As I always said competition to iPad is always welcome. Lets see how this one works out
.

RIM upcoming tablet probably called “Blackpad” is considered to be one of the most awaited tablet and everyone is waiting to see how it fairs against the iPad. Now the news is coming from Bloomberg that the Blackpad will be out this November with a price tag of around $499, with dimensions almost same as of iPad and with possible camera’s for video chat.
The device will have roughly the same dimensions as the iPad, which has a 9.7-inch diagonal screen, said the two people who wouldn’t be identified because the plans haven’t been made public. The device will include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless technology that will allow people to connect to the Internet through their BlackBerry smartphones, the two people said.
Competition for iPad is fine, it keeps Apple on toes. Lets just hope the Blackpad lives up to the expectation.
