Apple Insider is reporting that next generation iPad will be released in first quarter of next year with a obvious Facetime update. Although the post does say the Apple is not reducing the dimensions of iPad and the next gen will continue to have the 9.7″ inch screen.
According to Taiwanese industry publication DigiTimes, the suppliers are completing validation for the second-generation iPad, which will maintain the same 9.7-inch screen when it debuts in the first quarter of 2011.
Now we just need the retina display and we have an one really magical device in our hands

If rumours are to be believed then in the below screenshot you are looking at an next gen iPad with camera capabilitiies in the field testing.
9to5Mac got hold of the screenshot and reported that similar stuff(video call debugging ) was found with iPhone 4 facetime launch as well. So, iPad with camera and facetime is on the way for sure. Nice:-)
Newest rumour to hit the long line of next gen iPad news is from BGR, apparently somewhere down the code of iOS4 there is a part which is used while field testing devices before their release. And in the latest release of the code, there exists a code which points to the next gen iPad.
So, from seeing the code its being said that the next version of iPad is ready for some field testing, we can give some credibility to the news considering its comes from BGR and there is a code to prove it. Also, if you want see the previous rumour coverage hit the link.
New day new rumour, on the same lines I have covered here & here, new findings/rumours indicate that next gen iPad is slated to get a higher resolution screen, based on the gorgeous retina display iPhone 4 is equipped with.
The evidence for rumour lies in the iPad file system, apparently some where down inside the iBooks iPad app(official Apple app) folder you can find files named as “bookmark-ribbon-iPad@2x.png” which is a name used for retina display images in iPhone 4 ecosystem. Basically meaning these files have twice the resolution than the current ones being displayed and seems like Apple is already having those in place when next gen iPad comes out. Now, the normal bookmark image the iPad uses is 38 x 68 px, while the @2x is 76 x 136 px. Double the size. Could this mean the next iPad will feature something like a 2048 x 1536 display
If you have seen retina display on iPhone 4, you must be knowing how awesome it is and on iPad it will be just heavenly.
We all know Apple releases update for its iDevices once a year and it will not be different with iPad either. But we do have some time before anything new comes to iPad(hardware wise that is), but still the tech world is already buzzing with rumours about iPad 2G. So, here is the list of the ones I have heard and some points :
1. iPad 2G To Get A Camera & Facetime
Well its the same story that has been happening with iPod touch as well, which yet to get a camera for itself. But a camera on iPad atleast in the front for those facetime calls will be awesome. Facetime runs on Wifi so works good for iPad as well. About the high resolution back camera doesn’t seem to be happening soon atleast in near future.
2. iPad To Get A Higher Resolution Screen
After the launch of Retina display on iPhone 4 there are plenty of rumours floating around that iPad will be a contender for a high resolution screen. It will not be same exactly same as iPhone 4 but still better. But I am yet to see people complaining about iPad screen, its still gorgeous and content looks crystal clear.
3. Smaller iPads 5.6 / 7 Inch
This is the rumour I have trouble believing, smaller multiple iPad’s doesn’t seem like Apple. Like there was no iPhone Nano or iPod Touch there is a very little possibility of happening the same with iPad. This rumour originated when recently digitimes reported :
The sources noted that Apple has recently placed new iPad orders to Taiwan-based component makers for the fourth quarter of 2010 and the first quarter of 2011 with 9.7-inch, 5.6-inch and 7-inch models all included.
Still having trouble believing it.
