Getting difficult to pass around time till March 2, when the real iPad 2 shows itself, how about passing time with some more iPad 2 mockups.
Real/Fake no need to sweat, these things are usual nearing any Apple major product release
.
This is why I hate the rumour mill based on Apple products, its so uncertain that no one exactly knows what’s going to happen. I know that is why its called a rumour but seriously, you have to hit atleast something right. Anways, so much for our excitement that iPad 2 will have a retina’esque screen, John Gruber from Daring Fireball doesn’t seem to be much inclined towards the rumour. He says it iPad will get a high res screen but it might not be iPad 2.
(There are 2048 × 1536 iPad prototypes in Cupertino. They’re not the iPad 2, though.)
* Yeah that’s a iPad 3 rumour right there.
Now the key point of his discussion is that iPad 2 won’t see a 2x resolution increase, current is 1024 x 768 and it can’t be 2048 × 1536 for iPad 2. Reasons, well the resolution on the scale 2048 × 1536 will require serious processing power, they will also require quite work from the app makers to make their app look good on that type of HD display. Both points are valid but no one can be sure on what going to happen. Earlier Engdaget claimed iPad will get a new resolution screen, John doesn’t agree with that much, both of them are having their “reliable apple resources” at work from which all these information comes from.
Now, there is still hope the resolution might not stretch to 2x but it might see a bump after all. I don’t have a info coming from a “reliable sources” from Apple but it would make perfect sense for Apple to upgrade it and if it doesn’t it will surely be a bummer.
So we saw the rumours about a SD card slot in iPad and now the latest news coming from the good ol’ China shows one more port/slot that might be part of iPad 2. It can be HDMI or a mini HDMI, only Steve or the Foxconn workers will know for sure. Since I don’t have any contact with either one of them, we have to live with the just the picture of a iPad 2 case which might totally turn out to be a fake in the end but just in case :

Yes we go again on the rumour mill trail, so after the initial scare that iPad 2 might not get a high res screen things are changing. Latest rumour news suggests that iPad 2 is indeed getting a high resolution screen though not exactly not as the retina display on iPhone 4 but still it will be pretty good. The resolution might be somewhere around 2048×1536 which indeed will look crispy on iPad 2 screen. So, yes 1080p is on that track for iPad 2.
And yes it gets a SD card slot too, but not the USB port, little disappointing but something is better then nothing.
I wouldn’t get much more into the processor specifics but safe to assume that iPad 2 will get some serious processing power and it will come hand in hand with the dual core processor.
Apple’s next generation iPad and iPhone, both due the first half of this year, will pack a new version of the company’s custom A4 chip, with dual, faster graphics cores capable of supporting a Retina Display iPad and potentially bringing 1080p HD support to iOS devices, including Apple TV.
All in all its going to exciting time for iPad fans, when Apple releases the next instalment around April 2011.
This comes from Kevin Rose(yeah the Digg founder), who I must say have been pretty accurate in almost all of Apple related news/rumours. He confirms the cameras and retina display.
I have it on good authority that Apple will be announcing the iPad 2 in the next “3-4 weeks”, possibly Tuesday February 1st. The iPad 2 will feature a retina display and front/back cameras.
If you’re thinking of buying an iPad, hold off for now.
Kevin
Can’t wait
